About

Some homes have history. Blythewood is history. Built circa 1805/15, this Federal Period manor has witnessed two and a half centuries of American life — a Civil War battlefield, an 1887 Revolutionary War land grant, and the music of a celebrated ragtime legend. Registered with the Library of Congress. This is not a typical rental. It is a living artifact, and we welcome only those who understand the difference.

Good to know

Blythewood is part of a 3,840 acre 1787 Revolutionary War Land Grant to Captain John Ingalls. Previously owned by such notables as General James Winchester, who went on to build nearby Cragfont. Businessman, educator, and banker, Sam Blythe, built this home for his family in 1815. Many prominent figures have resided here over the years. Dr. James Blackmore lived here from 1841 until his passing in 1863. During the Union occupation of Gallatin, as evidenced by the bloodstained original ash floors, he used the home as a hospital for both the North and South. The battle of Gallatin, involving Col. John H. Morgans' Raiders, was fought in the woods behind this very place. During the time that Col. James B. Malone owned the home (1913), his wife held classes here for the first kindergarten in Gallatin. Fast forward to modern day, (1985-2018) when the first artist to record with DOT Records (1951) World renowned "King of Ragtime" pianist, Johnny Maddox, called Blythewood home. In 1954 Johnny Maddox was declared the number one juke box artist in America The Space 3 bedrooms (sleeps 6) 3.5 bathrooms 3,675 sq ft | 6 fireplaces total | 13-inch original masonry walls Formal parlor off the grand entrance Private game room (pool table & arcade) Original brick-paved patio Kitchen BlueStar commercial gas range Tankless gas water heater Full gourmet kitchen Comfort Plush robes York high-efficiency HVAC Anderson energy-efficient windows Tech & Entertainment High-speed Wi-Fi 55-inch TVs in all suites Cable TV Multi USB plugs throughout Facility In-unit washer and dryer On-site parking Accessible entrance
